In Europe, Paris Saint-Germain smashed the transfer record to sign Neymar for a reported £198 million, and Arsene Wenger said he believes a tipping point has now been reached. “Something will happen,” the manager said. “It is for the first time that yesterday politically the German prime minister came out and the president of Uefa came out. I think politically something will happen in the next 12 months to regulate and limit the transfer amount. “You have to go one of two ways – regulate it properly or leave it completely open. But you cannot be i...

Donald Trump And Kim hurl Abuses At Each Other

Earlier Friday Kim blasted Trump as a "mentally deranged US dotard" who will "pay dearly" for threatening to destroy North Korea. Kim Jong-un has said remarks by "deranged" US President Donald Trump have convinced him he is right to develop weapons for North Korea. In an unprecedented personal statement , Mr Kim said Mr Trump would "pay dearly" for a UN speech where he threatened to "totally destroy" the North if the US was forced to defend itself. Mr Trump  responded  that the "madman... will be tested like never before". The two countries have engaged in ever more heated rhetoric in recent months. Mr Kim ended his statement by saying he would "surely and definitely tame the mentally deranged US dotard with fire". Does Chelsea draw prove that Arsenal should have sold Ozil and Alexis?

Image
Arsenal lost out on a potential 100m GBP by refusing to sell Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez despite the very real threat of them walking away from the club for nothing next summer, not to mention the potential disruption from the inevitable transfer rumours as they near the end of those contracts. But yesterday, Arsenal put in probably their best performance of the season so far without these so-called superstars in the starting XI, and when Sanchez did come on for the last 25 minutes he hardly looked inspirational. Martin Keown thinks that this is very significant. “There has been so much fear at Arsenal of losing Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil,” the ex-gunner said. “This excellent performance at Chelsea without them made you wonder what all the fuss was about. “Without these two, Arsenal were much better defensively. They were disciplined, worked together and pressed as a unit to close down Chelsea.” “With midfielders working around him, Aaron Ramsey was able to get on the ball ...

ASUU STRIKE FINALLY SUSPENDED AS STUDENTS ARE BEEN EXPECTED BACK TO CLASSES TODAY

Image
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced a conditional suspension of its nationwide strike. Biodun Ogunyemi, president of the union, announced the suspension at the end of a meeting with top government officials led by Chris Ngige, minister of labour, in Abuja on Monday. ASUU declared a nationwide strike on August 13, citing the failure of the government to implement the 2009 agreement it reached with the union. The union had asked the government to pay its members their earned allowances and to increase funding for universities. It also protested non-payment of earned academic allowance (EAA), removal of universities staff schools from funding by the government and non-implementation of provisions of the 2014 pension reform act with respect to retired professors and their salaries. Ogunyemi said the union decided to conditionally suspend the strike action in view of the timeline of October 2017 for the implementation of the signed agreement. “We are taking...

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger defends treatment of club-record signing Lacazette

Image
Tony Cascarino has slammed the way in which Arsenal have treated Alexandre Lacazette since his big-money move from Lyon this summer, but Arsene Wenger has defended his stance. The former Chelsea striker has claimed that the club-record signing hasn’t been treated as he should, featuring much less than he should considering his substantial fee, and that the player’s confidence could take a hit unless things change. “Alexandre [Lacazette] is clearly a talented player but Arsène Wenger must be careful how he uses him,” Cascarino said. “He came off after 66 minutes yesterday, replaced by Alexis Sanchez, having had little chance to impose himself. “He was also taken off against Bournemouth and Stoke and didn’t even come off the bench away to Liverpool. “It’s very easy to have a negative impact on a striker’s confidence and the Frenchman might be at a stage where he’s going out after half-time thinking, ‘If I don’t score in the next ten minutes then I’ll be off’. “I was substituted a l...
