Read more at https://www.arsenal.com/news/boss-weve-hit-tipping-point-transfers#ZxhvPtfRIABAzrUz.99 The 2017 summer transfer window will go down in history as the most free-spending in history - with Premier League clubs accounting for £1.4 billion in business. In Europe, Paris Saint-Germain smashed the transfer record to sign Neymar for a reported £198 million, and Arsene Wenger said he believes a tipping point has now been reached. “Something will happen,” the manager said. “It is for the first time that yesterday politically the German prime minister came out and the president of Uefa came out. I think politically something will happen in the next 12 months to regulate and limit the transfer amount. “You have to go one of two ways – regulate it properly or leave it completely open. But you cannot be i...

Donald Trump And Kim hurl Abuses At Each Other

Image
Earlier Friday Kim blasted Trump as a "mentally deranged US dotard" who will "pay dearly" for threatening to destroy North Korea. Kim Jong-un has said remarks by "deranged" US President Donald Trump have convinced him he is right to develop weapons for North Korea. In an unprecedented personal statement , Mr Kim said Mr Trump would "pay dearly" for a UN speech where he threatened to "totally destroy" the North if the US was forced to defend itself. Mr Trump  responded  that the "madman... will be tested like never before". The two countries have engaged in ever more heated rhetoric in recent months. Mr Kim ended his statement by saying he would "surely and definitely tame the mentally deranged US dotard with fire". Does Chelsea draw prove that Arsenal should have sold Ozil and Alexis?

Image
Arsenal lost out on a potential 100m GBP by refusing to sell Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez despite the very real threat of them walking away from the club for nothing next summer, not to mention the potential disruption from the inevitable transfer rumours as they near the end of those contracts. But yesterday, Arsenal put in probably their best performance of the season so far without these so-called superstars in the starting XI, and when Sanchez did come on for the last 25 minutes he hardly looked inspirational. Martin Keown thinks that this is very significant. “There has been so much fear at Arsenal of losing Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil,” the ex-gunner said. “This excellent performance at Chelsea without them made you wonder what all the fuss was about. “Without these two, Arsenal were much better defensively. They were disciplined, worked together and pressed as a unit to close down Chelsea.” “With midfielders working around him, Aaron Ramsey was able to get on the ball ...

ASUU STRIKE FINALLY SUSPENDED AS STUDENTS ARE BEEN EXPECTED BACK TO CLASSES TODAY

Image
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced a conditional suspension of its nationwide strike. Biodun Ogunyemi, president of the union, announced the suspension at the end of a meeting with top government officials led by Chris Ngige, minister of labour, in Abuja on Monday. ASUU declared a nationwide strike on August 13, citing the failure of the government to implement the 2009 agreement it reached with the union. The union had asked the government to pay its members their earned allowances and to increase funding for universities. It also protested non-payment of earned academic allowance (EAA), removal of universities staff schools from funding by the government and non-implementation of provisions of the 2014 pension reform act with respect to retired professors and their salaries. Ogunyemi said the union decided to conditionally suspend the strike action in view of the timeline of October 2017 for the implementation of the signed agreement. “We are taking...

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger defends treatment of club-record signing Lacazette

Image
Tony Cascarino has slammed the way in which Arsenal have treated Alexandre Lacazette since his big-money move from Lyon this summer, but Arsene Wenger has defended his stance. The former Chelsea striker has claimed that the club-record signing hasn’t been treated as he should, featuring much less than he should considering his substantial fee, and that the player’s confidence could take a hit unless things change. “Alexandre [Lacazette] is clearly a talented player but Arsène Wenger must be careful how he uses him,” Cascarino said. “He came off after 66 minutes yesterday, replaced by Alexis Sanchez, having had little chance to impose himself. “He was also taken off against Bournemouth and Stoke and didn’t even come off the bench away to Liverpool. “It’s very easy to have a negative impact on a striker’s confidence and the Frenchman might be at a stage where he’s going out after half-time thinking, ‘If I don’t score in the next ten minutes then I’ll be off’. “I was substituted a l...

The  Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation  (NNPC) says the prices of petrol, and cooking gas have crashed across the country. Santi Cazorla issues message to Arsenal fans after being left out of Wenger's 25-man squad

Image
Arsenal news includes the latest on Santi Cazorla's recovery from injury. Santi Cazorla has sent out a message to Arsenal fans after he was left out of Arsenal’s 25-man Premier League squad. The popular Gunners midfielder has not played since October due to an Achilles problem which has forced him to undergo a staggering eight operations. There were hopes, however, that he could be closing in on a return, but those were dashed on Friday when Arsenal submitted their 25-man squad to the Premier League for the first half of the 2017/18 season. Cazorla’s name was not included, meaning he will be unable to play in the league until January at the earliest. The news has come as a blow to supporters, who believe Cazorla is vital to Arsenal having a successful season. But the 32-year-old is clearly keen to let everyone know he is still doing everything he can to get back to fitness, judging by his latest social media activity. Cazorla uploaded a video of himself working out...

Arsene Wenger's latest comment about Thomas Lemar will excite Arsenal fans

Image
Even though they’d managed to keep Alexis Sanchez, most Arsenal fans were left feeling despondent after transfer deadline day last week. Alexis didn’t want to be at the club and Arsenal supporters had come around to the idea that selling the Chile international might be best for all concerned. After all, he will only leave on a free transfer next summer and there was no longer the guarantee that he would continue putting 100 per cent effort in for the Gunners. Replacing the want-away South American with Thomas Lemar suddenly felt like a real possibility when Arsenal submitted a shock £92 million bid for the French midfielder hours before the transfer window closed. However, the deal failed to materialise and Arsene Wenger subsequently blocked Sanchez’s move to the Etihad Stadium. Lemar, it was reported at the time, didn’t want to sign for Arsenal for two reasons. He apparently preferred a move to Liverpool, who were also keen but were more intent on keeping Philippe Coutinho...

Euro Paper Talk: Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann's release clause halved

Image
With the transfer window now shut across most of Europe, the fallout from deadline day is still taking place. Spain Now the transfer window has closed, Manchester United transfer target Antoine Griezmann's release clause has dropped back to €100m (£91.5m). His new contract signed in June put it at €200m (£183m) during the last transfer window to put off potential suitors as Atletico Madrid would have been unable to replace him due to a transfer registration ban. ( Marca ) Chelsea  registered Diego Costa in their Premier League squad to avoid legal problems, but don't expect the forward, who is currently in Brazil after falling out with Antonio Conte, to play. ( Mundo Deportivo ) Liverpool set a price of €200m (£183m) for Philippe Coutinho two hours before the transfer window closed. Barcelona don't believe they wanted to sell, but they only did it as a manoeuvre to say to Philippe Coutinho that the Catalan club didn't want to pay the money it would take to s...

The Opportunity Cost of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium

Image
Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State is giving out the sum of $40,000.00 (N14 million based on the exchange rate of N350 to $1) to the Nigerian senior national football team, the Super Eagles, for defeating their Cameroonian counterpart, the Indomitable Lions, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday September 1, 2017, in fulfilment of his ostensibly impulsive promise to donate $10,000 to the team for every goal scored. If it is necessary to donate public funds to players, who have already made it in life materially before they can win a match at home, then what is the cacophony about? Ironically, two years after the state government owned Akwa United FC won the 2015 FA Cup, Governor Udom Emmanuel is yet to fulfill his promise to give each of the 34 registered players of the local club N2 million and a house. I do not like sports. However, any time that the Super Eagles plays, I do devote considerable time to watch their match if circumstances give a...

Suspected Boko Haram members kill 18 people in Nigeria

Image
Suspected Boko Haram militants killed 18 people in northeast Nigeria on Friday, according to local witnesses and officials, the latest in an escalating number of lethal attacks in the region. The knife-wielding attackers, moving under cover of night, targeted people in the town of Banki, 80 miles (130 km) southeast of the city of Maiduguri in Borno state, the epicentre of the eight-year conflict with Boko Haram, said a community leader and a local member of a vigilante group. The attack on the town, which sits on the border with Cameroon, is the latest in a string of deadly Boko Haram raids and bombings that have undermined the Nigerian military's statements that the insurgency is all but defeated. The frequency of attacks in northeastern Nigeria has increased in the last few months, killing at least 172 people since June 1 before Friday's attack, according to a Reuters tally. The attack on Banki left 18 dead, according to Modu Perobe, a member of the Civilian Joint ...

Wenger confirms Lemar snubbed Arsenal switch

Image
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Thomas Lemar snubbed a Deadline Day move to the Emirates. Aresenal made a British transfer record bid of £92m to sign the young Frenchman on deadline day earlier this week, a bid that was accepted by the French Champions Monaco. However, within a matter of hours, the news broke that the deal was off, as Lemar had rejected the move to Arsenal, preferring to move to Liverpool instead. Speaking to beIN Sports, Arsene Wenger said: “The player has chosen to stay in Monaco. “You do not want to talk too much about. You have to respect what happens on the negotiation side. “I know we live in the era of transprency but at some stage, to respect everybody you have to not talk too much about that. “Look I cannot tell you everything that happened because after that when you decide to let a player of that calibre go, you need to replace him because nobody would understand that you let the player go and when you cannot do it. “Yo...
